It’s everywhere. In publications, blogs, on Instagram and TikTok, running and running races, in particular, are a hot topic, and we know exactly why! After a pandemic, the feeling of togetherness that a race brings isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s essential to motivate and to bring communities together, celebrating what we are all capable of, no matter our age, shape, size or background. Are you inspired to get out there yourself, or need some encouragement if you’re teetering on the edge?
A great run starts with the right kit
Set yourself up for success, and look and feel your best. Don’t make yourself a race kit horror story and wear something brand new on the day that you’ve never road-tested. Find your favourites and test your race day kit to be sure it works for your body, the weather and the distance.
Our favourites for Spring running are:
Dream Spin Leggings (or Dream Spin Shorts)
Best-selling for a reason, these fit like a dream and work as hard as you do. Technical fabric that is seamless and high waisted, these leggings offer you a silhouette and support like no other.
And in Short form, all the design features you love with a great thigh-length rise to power you through the distance in both Classic Black and super-fun Ruby Pink.
Motivate Me Crop in Green or Black
For medium support and a great all-around sports bra, this has been a saviour on long runs. Just the right amount of support and the breathable fabric is a welcome feature for when the sun peeps out.
Worn on ILU’s very own Marketing Manager Naomi’s last Half Marathon - the most versatile top that spans the seasons, offering coverage, breathability, and comfort to see you to the finish line.
For a more substantial layer, suitable for early morning runs or chillier days, our Sculpt Me Top is beloved by runners and cyclists alike. Pairing beautifully with the Leggings and Shorts, this layer features extra long sleeves with thumbholes for comfort on those longer runs.
Your race, your pace.
Having a set time to complete your race can be a great benchmark to work towards, as well as structuring your runs and training accordingly. We love Runna for this, an app that fully integrates with our smart watches and (everyone’s favourite) Strava, offering expert advice, plans and direct coaching to build your confidence.
The runs you train for are the building blocks, the race day itself, your victory lap. Take time to nourish your mind as well as your body, replenish your energy and keep hydrated, and don’t be surprised if you need a lot more sleep (this will help a lot).
If you run, you’re a runner.
No matter the distance, or the time it took you to complete it, be proud of yourself every time you step out of your door or onto the treadmill. The hardest part is showing up for yourself, and once you do, you’ll find this confidence and accountability for your health spills into other areas of your life. With London Marathon just around the corner, there's no better time to get inspired and get out there!
