The Spring Marathon season is well and truly underway. It’s all over your social feeds, all your runner friends can nervously talk about as they anticipate their upcoming challenge. Perhaps you’re counting down the day to your own marathon experience. Here’s a little useful checklist from one runner to another.
If you’ve committed to the distance, you’ve also committed to the training block that comes before. Whether the goal is completion or a specific time, a certain amount raised or a bucket list tick, you’ve spent the time mentally and physically preparing yourself for one day. But take some time to acknowledge and celebrate all the days that have led to The Big Day. Those were achievements too. Race day is a victory lap, it may be the end of a training block, but also signifies the start of a new version of you. Someone who has completed this distance and has a story to tell about it. Imagining yourself the other side of this achievement can be a whole motivation in itself when the run gets rough.
